From its earliest beginnings at the Fred Segal Cafe on Melrose in the mid-1980s – and with hundreds of television, movie and commercial credits to its name – Flower Art has established itself as one of the premier resources in the industry. Longtime members of the Set Decorators Society of America (SDSA), we have been privileged to work with many of the finest set decorators, art directors, property masters, and buyers in the business. At our design studio, conveniently located in Hollywood near The Grove, we have an extensive inventory – available for purchase or rental – of flowers (fresh and silk), plants, planters, pottery, vases, pedestals, et.al., to accommodate all of your floral set design needs.

About Mark
Ever since his Aunt Tootsie allowed him to tend her garden when he was a toddler in Lutz, Florida, Mark Goins has been smitten by flowers, gardening, nature. “She loved her petunias,” remembers Mark. “She could graft anything! She was a natural born gardener.” It didn’t hurt, either, that his mother, Mary, was (and is) an orchid aficionado, with her own greenhouse. His neighbor, Joanne Osteen was another early influence. “She always did the flowers up at church,” Mark recalls. “It was her donation to the church every week.” Sometimes, Miss Osteen would let Mark have the old, leftover flowers. “I would take them home and make arrangements with them,” he says. He was 5 years old.

One of Mark’s first jobs in Los Angeles was working as a waiter at Fred Segal Cafe on Melrose in the early-to-mid 1980s. One of the co-owners, Dawn Pursell, always did the floral arrangements for the restaurant. “One day,” Mark remembers, “she got sick and asked me to fill in for her [doing the flowers]. When she got well and returned to work, she told me that everyone liked what I was doing and she asked me to take over for her. She knew that I wasn’t happy being a waiter. She said that she would pay me!”

Mark’s first job for a florist was with famed Los Angeles designer, David Jones. But, it was under the tutelage of the talented Dante Elia that Mark learned the specialized art of designing flowers for movie and television sets. He was further mentored by two set decorators, both giants in the industry, Joe Bevacqua and Audrey Blasdel-Goddard. Joe, in addition to his friendship and inspiration, taught Mark the business of designing flowers and plants for sets. Audrey, the doyenne of set decoration and then the head of the Sony Studios property department, graciously took Mark under her wing and opened numerous doors.

Today, after over 20 years in the business, Mark continues to be inspired by the challenges inherent in each new project, in each new set, in each new arrangement.
